For my Commemorative event project, I was chosen to have the writer, anthropologist and folklorist from the Harlem Renaissance, Zora Neale Hurston. After fully researching the life and works of Hurston, I conducted and listed out keywords that describe her; Inspiring, Leader, Brave, Static. Zora was a very inspiring individual during the Harlem Renaissance who did not let her ethnic background or gender get in her way.
I wanted to portray my poster as a piece of Harlem Renaissance art. Harlem Renaissance and African American art are known for its highly abstract shapes and vibrant color combinations. I decided to choose the iconic image of Hurston in a profile position because the positioning of her body as well as the patterns that are embedded on the wall behind her.
